For the moments I Grow faint

I went to a funeral this weekend, for the mother of a friend, I had not met her, but that's not the only reason we go to these events. While trying to comfort a friend, I started to think about some of the ideas that were being spread around. I heard someone say "God never gives us more than we can bear" and I thought to myself, that's true... then I immediately corrected myself, that isn't true. The closest thing you'll find in scripture is

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1st Corinthians 10:13

This is about temptation, not struggle. It's reassuring that God cares for us and won't let us be tempted too much, but what about our pain, struggle, and loss? The hard truth is there are going to be dark times. Times when we won't have the answers, when there is nothing we can do to fix things. Times when our hurt is overwhelming.

But He is good and faithful and He does promise that in our hurt and struggle, He will be with us, we won't have to endure it alone. We will get through it, not in our strength but in His.

As I sat through this funeral, not really knowing the sweet lady who had passed away, I realized there was a fair bit of drama, Some people, either in a wicked way or in a state of not-knowing what to do, were trying to make this moment about them, by having the right words, or being the most hurt, or making jokes. I don't want to cast blame, but these moments are so raw sometimes.

A lot of times in life, hard things happen and we can turn to people who have answers, or scripture and find answers, or even look to the spirit to confirm things, but the truth is, sometimes there will be no obvious answer, or no answer yet. From time to time we will cry out to God, who is faithful to answer, but all we will find is silence.

If things are made bearable by the presence of God, then the silence of God can be an unbearable thing. In these moments, faith is hard, but necessary.

And maybe we won't get through it. There are things that we aren't able to survive, our days are truly numbered. But if Jesus is our Lord and Saviour, we know that there is something better waiting on the other side of the silence. That though we may not be able to Bear all things, we don't have to. And something better is so close.

We aren't promised the things that the world wants us to hold dear, but we are promised a king and a kingdom. Beyond what we know now. and when we grow weary and faint, that promises is still just as true as it has always been. We won't be left behind or forsaken, and The same God who has made these promises is good and faithful to keep them.
