About the Kingdom
It's not an earthly Kingdom.
The kingdom of God is an infinite kingdom, this isn’t something we can easily perceive, it can’t even exist in our world. We understand and experience a portion of His Kingdom as it’s breaking into time and space. It’s a kingdom with out beginning or end, that knows no boundaries. The kingdoms of earth are just facsimiles of the kingdom of God. Having heard God reveal His kingdom to the world through scripture, several have applied those attributes to their own rule and reign, but they really couldn’t be less similar.
God’s kingdom, existed before time, space, even matter, or energy. It’s the foundation that our world is built on. Our structures, powers, and principalities are contingent on the eternal sovereignty and reign of God.
In order to Know God, and to experience the parts of the kingdom that we can experience here on earth, we have to submit to God, and realize that he reigns in all things. Our rebellion (sin) doesn’t make us kings or queens in our own kingdom, it just makes us rebels in a kingdom that has in no way diminished because of our rebellion. We don’t have the power to declare independence, we have God’s grace that allows us to exist in a rebellious state, and also allows us to seek forgiveness and enter back into community when we ask for it.
The crazy thing about God’s kingdom is that it exists perfectly without us, but in His love, God lets us play a part in growing it. God is sovereign, Jesus, who saw himself to be less than God (in authority) humbled Himself before the father, and God gave him all authority in heaven and earth. The disciples, who humbled themselves before Jesus, were given all authority by Jesus, and adopted as brothers into the family of God. Every single person who submits to God and humbles themselves is in turn immediately given all the authority of God to build the kingdom.
It’s a kingdom that is already finished, and always has been. Because God is outside of time reaching in to connect with us. But He uses us to continue His kingdom and His reign, building the kingdom on heart at a time. From here to eternity.
